Does anyone remember Alcan Paper hulls and know of suitable reloading recipes. I picked up 100 unprimed old but new and unused but cant searching the usual sources locate recipes.
Thanks

Good luck. Don't be surprised if the primer hole is too small. There may be a way to enlarge it. What gauge? I have the Lyman Ideal Handbook #39 (1953). "The charge table...developed by the Alcan Co." is contained in the book. The only modern powder I recognize is Red Dot. The Rem. 57 is recommended for primer holes .224" diameter. Gil

Now you need to find .135 card wads, 3/8 and 1/2 inch Felton Blue Streak wads, and AL-5, AL-7 or AL-120 powder. Alcan Reloader's Manual XI --

Please look at the #6 Speer manual Also, if you are out Amarillo way, I have *57 primers that I use for my paper, plastic and all brass hulls when loading for skeet shooting. And also a selection for nitro and filler wads Good reading https://circlefly.com/productshttps://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4...amp;_sacat=7301Mike

Here's info from the #39 Ideal Handbook. As for cards and wads, ebay will have them time to time. The issue with the filler wads (Blue Streak) is that as sold were wax ringed. After sitting for a half century in someone's garage or attic, forget about it still being present on the wads you pick up. Probably get by with the NC cards from BPI. I have been using a few published recipes for 2" 12 ga. and so far the chronographed velocities have been all over the place using nitro cards. The little plastic gas seal sold by BP is remarkably consistent in comparison. Note that the charge table requires seating pressures something not necessarily required in modern loads. If you have difficulty with reading, pm me for specifics.

I believe I have some of the AL-5/AL-7 or both. I'll need to dig around in the powder stash to see.

Researcher, in looking at the load data, Wad Column, I assume the three lines per some loads are alternate stacks of components to accomplish the same internal volume, the .135" and .200 are nitro cards, I assume PGS is plastic gas seal, but can't figure out AW-- maybe Alcan Wad? FBS is Felton Blue Streak. Gil

The AW will be the Alcan "Air Wedge" wad, a gas seal plastic wad

PGS is Alcan's Plastic Gas Seal which was the first step towards our modern plastic wads. AW is Alcan's Air-Wedge wad, another step along the evolutionary road.
By Reloader's Manual XI Alcan was introducing their one-piece plastic wad, essentially an Air-Wedge with petals and a Felton Blue-Streak inside.
In my teenage years I began my shotshell loading career with 23 grains of Red Dot, a Nitro Card, two Felton Blue Streaks and 1 1/8 ounce of shot in a Federal paper shell. I was shooting trap back then. Then along came the Plastic Gas Seal to replace the Nitro Card and we could drop the Red Dot to 19 grains.
