I had not stumbled on this sub-forum until the last couple days. Cool. I thought some might find my Steyr of interest. It has a 20 inch solid-ribbed barrel and weighs 6 and 3/8th pounds. I took some photos yesterday. I learned what I already knew - don't quit my day job to become a photographer. Anyway, hopefully you can see the basic features of this finely crafted rifle. I'd be interested in any comments or questions anyone has.

Boltman,
This in a nice and interesting rifle. Is it chambered for 8x50R Austrian?

Mike - thank you. As far as I know it is, but that is speculation. I've had it many years. I don't shoot everything I own. And given the age of the rifle, the uncertainty of the chambering, the expense of dies and components... it's just not worth the small handful of times I might shoot it.

By the way, for anyone wondering, that's not pitting on the rear sight folding leaf. It is stippling. Presumably to reduce glare?

Boltman,
The answer is just shoot it more. I always "get a kick" out of figuring out the caliber of old guns and how to load for them. Of course, you could always give it to one of your friends that does enjoy it, and let him do the work for you. Right now, 8x56R cases are available that can be converted to 8x50R. Some have converted surplus 8x56R ammo to 8x50R, by pulling bullets, shortening cases, reseating bullets with a reduced charge of the salvaged powder. The bullets, however are about .006" too large, so if you are offered this type ammo you have to insure there is enough room in the neck area of the chamber to release the bullet without running the pressure up.

Cool! I'd love to find one of those in 8x50R. I had a BSA in that caliber and should never have let it go.

Mike - you're experience seems to match mine. I've loaded for a great many odd, vintage, obsolete and wildcat cartridges. I just haven't done them all.
