There is not a single health care system in any nation on this planet that is designed and equipped to deal with a massive influx of severely ill patients. It takes both time and money to mobilize for something of this magnitude. The quarantines and shutdowns are only intended to try to prevent the system from being overwhelmed all at once. Epidemiologists have been warning that something like this was only a matter of when it would happen, not if it would happen. It will be interesting to look back 5-10 years from now, and see if we learned anything from this.

Well Ted,
Back in mid evil times when knives were recently added as acceptable tableware,
you didn't always have the pleasure of dining with friendly's.

It was viewed as less threatening to have ones knife turned inwards towards oneself
rather than outwards towards ones enemies, um, er, dinner companions.

Nothing wrong with good gin. Straight up, if necessary.
