Horsepower is such seductive stuff. Be it cars, bikes, boats, etc. Turning a powerful engine loose and then hanging on while it's singing is unlike anything else in life. It has been said the God the Father shoots an underlever hammer Purdey, but I swear....he must be a motorhead too. Why else would we have been gifted with such inventive minds to create all these beautiful and wonderful toys to play with?

I literally dont know what protective equipment one should wear going a buck fifty plus in a boat .... It is a Lifeline flotation and impact life vest, and a helmet, Ted. And, tho' it's not protective equipment, it's equipment nonetheless ................ a BIG set of "you know whats". That's not always enough for protection, however. Friend of ours from Biloxi blew over, racing his Allison, last April. Lost a leg, nearly lost the other. Still building race engines in his shop, however. Just tested a prototype 3.5 stroker Merc that went 516 hp. at only 18 degrees timing. It's probably gonna be good for 600 in race tune. Good luck with your new bike. Nothing quite like the feel of that much horsepower between your legs. Best, SRH P.S. In the spirit of the thread, it was burning lead free fuel. Yea, I took in a few videos of those boats, running fast, and a few of them getting out of control at speed, and all hell breaking loose. Looked like a lot of small pieces of stuff were left. Made my bad habit of running cloverleafs, at speed, after midnight, burning up foot pegs, look pretty tame. The 1200 FJ was about 130 horse in stock trim, piped and jetted gets you around 150. It is one of the nicest handling and well planted bikes at speed, deceptive in the way it lets you find out where your skill set is no longer up to what the bike is capable of. Hell of a machine. Best, Ted _________________________________ The stone wouldnt stand a chance against a 30 year old FJ.

Ted, Have you got a scabbard for that thing? And maybe a side cart for the dog? A long time ago I hunted grouse in Ontario every year & at one favorite cover I would sometimes run into a local riding a Rokon w/ his shotgun in a scabbard & his dog in a basket on the handlebars.

A former co-worker of mine one rode a Harley for years. On one occasion a VW (Bug) pulled out of a side road right in front of him. He broadsided that Bug & turned it over. Luckily he wasn't hurt real bad. The lady driving the Bug mentioned her paying the damages & not turning it in on her insurance. He gave her a rough estimate as to what it would take to repair the damages to that Big Harley & he decided real quick like to let the Insurance company handle it.

Stan, having topped 115 mph in a boat and 150 mph in my car (well, two of them in Canada and a number in Germany), I cant imagine the 150 plus on the water. My over 100 mph runs in boats I found terrifying. My 155 mph in a car was just exhilarating.

My little toy, needs a good tailwind to break 60 mph, wrong kind of dogs but the boot will hold a sxs while looking for quail.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Horsepower is such seductive stuff. Be it cars, bikes, boats, etc. Turning a powerful engine loose and then hanging on while it's singing is unlike anything else in life. So true. Each type vehicle has it's own characteristics that have to be learned to do that. I'm still learning about these hi-per boats, but I've got a good teacher. My friend M. Dixon, who set the record I mentioned, was with me this afternoon explaining how, at high enough speed, tunnel hull boats will completely leave the water. Not a square inch of the hull will be wet. The boat will be riding on a cushion of air with only the gearcase and the lower part of the prop in the water. It's a thing of beauty to watch ......... a driver controlling that "balancing act". There are only a handful of people that can (or will try to) do that in a 20' STV. This was Michael in '05 on the Suwanee running 143. Early in the video you can see another driver in a "blowover". About the middle of one run a gust of wind nearly causes Michael to lose it, but he keeps it under control. Warning, there is some profanity that I do not care for. You may want to mute the sound. Some of the guys get a little too vocal about that last run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHSQj-F-fpw SRH
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Nice rig, oskar. When asked how he could storm the beach at Iwo Jima, an old school Marine answered, It was easy. It was that or go back to that goddamn ship. CTR/2621 83 ____________________________ Something like 22,000 HP, Stan. https://youtu.be/70UHdG9qCqw
