From the Shotgunworld post, the maker would have been Ignotti & Fratelli(Brothers???) or maybe sons? Or would Brothers Ignotti be Fratelli Ignotti?
Cheers,

Pretty good read on ole Saul below: https://books.google.com/books?id=n8r9Ae...ami&f=falseIf you can't access or read it, I'll gladly copy & paste... Appears that Saul or his wife was a philanthropist too as a scholarship was set-up under the name of his wife? Cheers, Raimey rse

On my barrels I can see _IGNOTTI _ clearly. The first letter in front of the I could be a B or an S. The last letter could be a C or a G. I thought it might be Signotti or Bignotti with a C or G at the end.

I cannot find any info for IGNOTTI Fratelli. I can find info for G Bignotti. I can only find that Bignotti makes side by sides.

Lovely effort. Now can you take a piece of paper and a soft pencil, say 2H maybe HB?, & make a complete rubbing to see if a >>S<< or whatever appears to the left of the characters?
I have submitted an indirect inquiry to Toschi of Ravenna, Italy who might well know this >>ignotti<< or Toschi's brother? Toschi doesn't have any heirs or assigns to take up his gun work & the craft will die with him. About 6 months back I was to meet him @ his shop but travel got the best of me & I over slept(actually montenegrin allowed me to stay fast asleep....). Then he wasn't available when we dropped by his shop. But my plan is to visit this most talented mechanic in the near future.
Cheers,

That large >>M<< touchmark on the underside of the tube just might be a >>Material<< proofmark similar to that of the Germans. The Italians seem to have patterned their proof protocol after the Germans.
