It looks like I'll be here thru Christmas at least. Worth bringing a gun out here? If time allows, where would I want to go?

Virtually all the way from Omaha back to Denver is decent bird hunting. I shot a lot of Skeet when I was at Offutt AFB in the summer and early fall of 1975, both at the ranges on base and locally. That was the time frame that Ken Pletcher, retired Surgeon General of the Air Force, was president of the NSSA and the Offutt club was his home range. Nicer guy you'll never meet. Good Dove shooting in the area too. Urban sprawl being what it is I imagine the places we shot are all housing developments and strip malls now.

You've got pheasants on either side of the Missouri River. Take your pick.

You've got pheasants on either side of the Missouri River. Take your pick. Probably more on the Iowa side in close proximity to Omaha. Quail have been increasing the last two years to the west, though I don't know about this year's prospects. Sharptails and chickens out there not too far also. Good waterfowl in the area with a really interesting waterfowl refuge worth visiting even w/o a gun (Desoto Bend NWR). Jillions of white geese all over.

Mr. Kissam: I must be doing something wrong as the PM feature is fighting me a bit. I'll try again.

BrentD: I must admit, I'm painfully ignorant of this part of the world. I would have guessed upland hunting to be somewhat limited to pheasant and waterfowl, and with the seemingly now-ubiquitous uban sprawl mentioned earlier, I'd most-likely have to drive a bit from the West Omaha hotel I've landed in. My work can be pretty consuming but... opportunities do pop-up on occation. You've mentioned some good options, clearly, but as a "foreigner" here, I'll likely not have the time to develop the connections or insight to pursue most of them. Is anything conveniently nearby?

Lloyd, I am in Kansas shooting a match right now. When I get back, I will post a couple of resources for youfrom my computer.. I do not generally hunt that far West, although occasionally, I go into East central Nebraska after sharptails and quail. I don't know what you consider convenient, but I'll get you some resources that you can work that out on your own.
