Note that Paul "Requested" that Philemon release Onesimus as a Brother, as he stated he could be of much service to him (Paul). He DID NOT Command him to do so & he did not tell him it would be a Sin not to. One has to read what the Bible Says, Not what one wants it to say. The freeing of Onesimus was purely a personal request from Paul, not a Command of God.

Quote:
1Co 7:21  Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
1Co 7:22  For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.
1Co 7:23  Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
1Co 7:24  Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.

From a Greek Lexicon, the word Servant here is literally "SLAVE".

Nota Bene (Note Well) I am not suggesting we return to slavery. I am quite happy it no longer exists. I had ancestors who owned slaves. Some or all of them may well have been sinners in the sight of God, he will Judge that. I will state with Confidence though if they were, it was NOT because they owned a slave or slaves.

There were laws given, from God, regarding one's treatment of their slaves. It was never a command they had to free them. Also, note I am not taking it upon myself to "Speak For God" I am simply letting "His Word" speak for itself.

My point is one simply cannot Judge the past by the present. Abraham is referred to as The Friend of God & also as the Father of the Faithful. He owned many slaves, he was never told to free them. He was given many commands, which he obeyed, but that was not among them.

So was any part of your ancestor's owning slaves sinful? Having them kidnapped and transported here in hellish conditions? Buying and selling another child of God as livestock for financial gain? Separating children from their mothers? Compelling compliance with the whip? Sexual slavery? How Miller do you separate owning slaves from the reality of what slavery was?

Paul was quite clear when speaking for himself and not God - 1 Corinthians 7:10 & 12

Yep, Abraham got ahead of God and had sex with a slave girl, and that didn't work out well for the children of Isaac and Jacob. He also lied to Pharaoh about Sarai being his wife. It was his faith that made him right with God (Genesis 15:6, Romans 4), just like us (Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:28).

Your position on the "Curse of Ham" Miller? It's in God's word in Genesis 9:24-26. Maybe provide us with a link to your church's or denomination's position?

Jesus said in Luke 4:18 (foretold in Isaiah 61:1) that he was sent to proclaim freedom for the prisoners/captives. All of us are in bondage (slaves) to sin, and some then were in physical bondage. The church, when faithful, has been at the forefront of ending slavery - both kinds.

Dr. Drew do you ever feel like a thief when you go on a missionary trip.

Are you not trying to steal a foreigners heritage and make them a slave to your religion ?

John 8:34-36
Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

I'm thinking freedom in Christ is better than slavery to the machismo culture, corruption, alcohol, witchcraft and the worship of demons Frank. Check out Maximon here; this stuff is real

If the C.A. culture was so wonderful they wouldn't all be coming here.
