I'm currently enjoying Winston Groom's book on Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill titled "The Allies". He says FDR's father bought him a "fine small-gauge double barrel shotgun" in his youth. Anyone know what that was?

ONE of his is 10 miles from my house smile

The shotgun in 2010 sold for $862,500, setting a record for the most expensive shotgun ever sold at auction.

Sorry, Skeetx and Revdocdrew. This was Franklin, not Teddy. And a small gauge, not a 12 given to "beetle" in WWII. Would have been in 1890s and used by Franklin to get "specimens" in the manner of Audubon. Maybe a 410 or 28 ga.

After the war, "Beetle" Smith served as President Truman's Director of Central Intelligence. In that capacity, he convinced Truman--based on evidence compiled by a CIA counterintelligence officer--that British diplomat "Kim" Philby was a Soviet spy. Truman sent Philby packing, and it cost him his government job. Unfortunately, it was another 10 years before the Brits determined that Philby had been spying for the Russians for nearly 25 years. He fled to Moscow rather than facing trial.

Interesting to note that the Grant given to General Smith has a good bit more drop in the stock than one would find on most British doubles.

Wrong Roosevelt, Skeet-X-- You have Teddy's A.H. Fox 12 bore. Teddy and FDR were cousins, I believe. RWTF

Good grief, the public school system strikes again. At least his two line post didn't include any spelling errors.
