Anyone ever seen one? Not me. At least not on the "Guns & Ammo TV" show the other day when they did their usual "Torture Test" segment of the show. They had a Bennelli 12 gauge and slipped a 20 gauge shell into the barrel then a 12 gauge/deer slug behind it and pulled the trigger. The only thing that happened was it sent the 20 gauge out as a projectile. Empty 12 gauge hull ejected. No damage to the gun. They were puzzled. Then they put a regular 12 gauge shell with shot behind the 20 gauge shell and tried it again. The gun fired, sending the 20 gauge hull out as a projectile and the 12 gauge hull ejected out onto the table with absolutely no damage to the gun. They were puzzled and only comment was: Hmmmm.... "I guess we're sending the wrong message out here"........... Pretty funny.

Might be better evaluated by doing the same in a pressure gun with straingages down the length. A Benelli is a modern gun with modern steels and margins of safety developed in these times of huge liability on guns.

What was once a trap gun, until fired with a 20g shell obstructing the top barrel. Resident of the morgue, Trevallion Orthopedic Infirmary

I was shooting skeet with a friend who accidentally dropped a 20 gauge shell into his 16 gauge auto-loader. It fired the shell and ejected the hull. The brass had flared out around the plastic, but otherwise the gun functioned as it should and he managed to break the bird too. Of course, a 16 gauge is closer to a 20 than a 12.

I wonder what the guy looks like that shot that gun. I hope he looks better than the gun.

The BENNELLI 12 gauge is overbored. The bore diameter of a new BENNELLI is most likely .740 inches or greater. That gives the rim of the 20 gauge shell a lot more clearance. In ANY case I would not want to be holding this shotgun and doing this. Jent

I saw that on G&A. Even with the "I guess we're sending the wrong message" disclaimer, they should not have aired anything that suggests a gun or the shooter can survive a 12/20 burst. I guess part of the "torture test" is really to plug gunmakers like Benelli.

When you say "a 20ga shell/hull" do you mean an empty shell or a loaded shell? Thanks, Kurt
