Does anyone know if Henry Monk, gunmaker, UK offered or provided trade labels?

Thanks,
John

Henry Monk, Chester, Established I863.
Trading in 1985 as;
Henry Monk [Gunmakers] Limited,
8 Queen Street,
Chester,
Cheshire CH1 3LG
Records show that in 1881 Monk applied for a patent for breeching single and double shotguns. I can find no record that this patent was granted.
Henry Monk was granted patent # 1677 in 1890, covering crimping or turning over the edges of a cartridge/ Monk's made a wide variety of cartridges including, The Imperial, Pegamoid and The Royal.
I have seen several double guns bearing the Monk name all of which were of Birmingham Origin.

I checked with Monk on a trade label for my gun a couple of years ago and was informed that they were not available.

If you have better luck finding one now, please let me know.

By the way, Monk told me that they serial numbered their guns of that era with the year that they were built followed by the number designating the order in which the gun was built that year. For example, 193411 would be the eleventh gun built in 1934.

And my gun was not actually made by Monk, it was built for them in Birmingham.

Thanks all. I did look on Dyson and Krank, no label. I saw a nice 16 box.lock, non-ejector, on Vintage Doubles. It seemed priced right but I knew little of the maker.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163335725615

This may do if yours is a Monk and not a W. H. Monk. Not sure if they'll mail outside the UK but may be worth contacting the seller to ask. The description will give more info and states they're copies, not originals.
Monk's shop is about 15 miles away from where I live but I've never found them to be very helpful. Been asking for any info on my post WW2 boxlock, their gunsmith replied to tell me he'd passed on my request to the owners but after several attempts, they never bother to reply.

Monk's shop was my go to shop for cartridges and other bits and pieces When I worked in Chester during the 1970s. Though I am sure the shop I went to was on Foregate street Chester, I also remember a rather friendly older man who would like to talk about guns and his exploits shooting in deepest Cheshire countryside. Ahh memories!!

Hi Damascus, they're down a side street not far from where the old shop was these days.
Probably saving them a few quid on the ridiculous business rates in Chester.
