About 15 years ago I had to turkey hunt one spring on crutches because of a fractured femur head...crutches weren't too bad but Jim Bowie riding shotgun was. I've handled and been bitten by my share of non venomous snakes when I was young but truth is I've never felt close enough to God to be handling a live poisonous snake. One morning I was strolling back to the truck on my crutches and crossed paths with a beautiful King snake...her first reaction was to flea...then to defend...then to submit. She wrapped around my crutch and made the 100 yard walk to the truck with me. I thought about keeping her...but I never have kept a snake. I knew I didn't need to get an infection from a bite so I laid the crutch down and let the King crawl away.
