What material or substance do you all use to rebuild chipped and broken buttplates? Something black enough to match a hard rubber buttplate is needed.

Thank you. I went that route once. It turned out a bit light, and I'd used a lot of dye.

I just hold a flat piece of steel in a candle flame and scrape the black soot off into thickened epoxy. It doesn't seem to take very much to produce a dense black colour.

Doug, PA24, used JB Weld. I don't know exactly how he accomplished the results he did, which were super, but he told me himself that is what he used.

I have used a thick epoxy with some black (oil based) paint. It is workable when it sets up and is black all the way through.

Way, way back when I was working hard to help Bubba earn his well known reputation, I used Accra Glass Gell with a drop of Testors gloss back model airplane paint mixed in with it. Me and ol' Bubba knew all the best methods!
