On another thread this April shooting event was mentioned. The website says by invitation only. What gives? You have to be invited to spend money there?

They don’t need any millionaires stinking up the place.
Place looks boring as F. I wouldn’t turn down a round of golf if someone invited me though.

Fairly easy to get an invite. Vendors will provide one if you ask. Gil

Brays Island is a private gated residential community. The gun club is for the land owners and we "ordinary folk" are not going to be able to shoot there unless the guest of a landowner. The expo is our opportunity to shoot at the club, it's "invitation only" but getting an invitation is easy and the primary purpose is to allow them to control entrance at the gate to those who have "invitations". Email them at exporservations@braysisland.org or call 843-846-3169 and you should receive your invitation in due time. They even "invite" me and my wife (my wife I can understand - me on the other hand . . .). We find the course is very much worth shooting and it's a fun day outing.

But, if you'd rather play the oppressed pauper and not have the opportunity to see all the vendor's guns and wares, and shoot on one of the prettiest sporting courses in the Southeast, and have a really good lunch........................it's your loss. And, nobody will bat an eye if you don't spend a dime, either. Bob, you left a letter out of the email address. exporeservations@braysisland.org SRH

I understand it’s very nice. Dates around the Southern SXS too. You could spend a good week in that area.

I think it is planned to always be the week prior to the Southern, so that the vendors who travel so far can leave Bray's Island and drive on up to N.C. It's a great opportunity for me to drive 1 hr. 15 mins. and see lots of fine guns, visit with old friends, and get to shoot a beautiful course. I have a friend from FL who comes every year and then drives on up for the Southern.

I took a preliminary look at some property there.
It is a very nice place. If I remember correctly the entrance fee was about $80K, and the homes seemed a little overpriced.
What you got was full of amenities for the sportsman, very nice and private, if that is what you are looking for.

I remember Bray's Island before development. Sumner Pingree, Jr., bought Bray's Island Plantation in the 1960s after Castro took over the family's 85,000 acres cattle and sugar operation in Cuba. I recall him from his billfishing days out of the lowcountry. Here's his background: http://www.islandpacket.com/opinion/opn-columns-blogs/david-lauderdale/article50809265.html
