Larry, His original question was essentially "Is my Thalmann up to the task of a trap league for 4 mos?" Bill said no one addressed his question.
Since I have seen many firearms loosened up by the rigors of trap shooting, I erred on the side of caution and just clearly said, "If you run 1600 (typical) trap loads through a SxS shotgun you'll feel the difference (accelerated wear)."

Partly because about 90% of the people I see shooting trap are just buying OTC trap loads at Walmart. Not RST's or Polywads. Only occasionally do I see someone with Featherlite's, usually teaching some kids.

People buy cartridges based on price. After all, if it fits in the gun it must be OK, Right? And if the base is only 1/4" tall, that's a soft shooter, Right?

I fully expect someone to ow come along and say, "BS, I bought an old Neumann Freres shotgun at an estate sale, and I've shot 10,000 high based trap loads through it, and it's tighter than when I bought it."

I unfortunately, with a dozen or more broken shotguns sitting around here, would say, I doubt it.

Out there doing it best I can.

The problem is not your first post, CZ, but your second. That came right after he specified that he'd be shooting 7/8 oz 7 1/2's. I've owned quite a few German sxs in addition to the Sauer. I can't imagine a post-war 12ga that would show accelerated wear after 1600 of his loads.

I appreciate all advice and should say that what I was really asking, I suppose, is if the Thalmann was a sturdily built gun as SxSs go. It will not be the only gun I will be using as my shooting is for fun not score and I am using my own thrower and shooting with friends so it will be relaxed.

Just for my edification, what SxS would be recommended for target games? Win 21 or some pigeon gun perhaps?

I do appreciate the replies.

I shot Skeet for a number of years with a SKB 100 but I also shot steel out of it for a number of years with no damage.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Dr. Hinkins of Chicago, has an L. C. Smith gun that was formerly used by Rolla Heikes. This gun was fired 60,000 times while in the possession of Mr. Heikes and has had over 15,000 shots fired from it since that time by Dr. Hinkins. This goes to show what the L. C. Smith gun will stand, as it is still tight and strong us a new gun.

Those loads were 1 1/4 oz. 3 1/4 - 3 1/2 Dr. Eq. BTW

A reasonably built gun should be wholly unphased by 1600 rounds. Would even a modest English game gun fold up after a handful of seasons shooting driven birds?

Trap from the 16 yard line doesn't require a big load. Really, it doesn't. An ounce or even 7/8 is adequate.

I just picked up this Miroku 350A (precursor to the Miroku 500) for a rainy day Trap shooter.
A lesser BSS if you will. Confidence is high it will go boom in the right places.
