Good morning all , first and foremost I'd like to thank you for the Add to your forum ! I have an Alfred Field & co , 12 Bore double barrel hammer-less gun , it came with a cloth breakdown case that's in pretty rough shape ! I really know very little about the gun and even on the internet there is very little information , on the barrel it says Alfred Field & co , Snow Hill London. the snow hill is what really throws everyone off , I'd really appreciate any information anyone has!

Alfred Field and Co; 1892-3, 199a, Bishopsgate Street, London. Alfred Field and Co; 1891-1900 7 Edmund Street, Birmingham. Snow Hill is A street in Birmingham adjacent to Edmund Street. Both locations in Birmingham are close to the old Birmingham Gun Quarter. Your gun is more than likely incorrectly engraved or worse still it is a spurious gun made by unscruplious others in Birmingham trade. My advice is; forget about the name and enjoy your gun!

Hi Gerry. I started an Alfred Field thread last year. I acquired one almost a year ago now, and fixed it back up to usable shape, and it's now owned by a member here. http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=480916&page=1I apologize for the images being gone, due to Photobucket policies, but there's a directory of pictures of it as it is today here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1dTqFo0Hh1qaOLU0c2C8-ld3XozEIA7DG

Thanks Gerry. I wish the photography was better. I am not good enough to call my efforts a restoration: more of a rejuvenation or a facelift. In the case of this one, I got it in trade last April, took it completely apart and cleaned it, had a friend fix a crack and rechecker it, and I refinished the barrels. It was interesting in that it’s a sidelock ejector, with coil hammer springs, and some interesting patent stamps.
I don’t know about value.
There were a pair of Alfred Field hammer guns at Simpson, Ltd. recently that might be fun.

Thanks B Graham
I really appreciate the information , my gun needs some work as well the forearm has a crack and the whole gun could use a real good cleanup ! I'm in Canada, close to Detroit do you know anybody in the area that does that type of work ?

I don't know of anyone, but this is certainly the place to ask. Post another thread asking for options in your area. Folks will speak up.
