JB, If the gun had a barrel set with rifle , it would likely have a set trigger. Mike

So the top rib is devoid of any text? What is on the butt-plate?

" Bericht über den Werdegang der Firma Simson und Co. Suhl.- Mitteilung von Simson und Co.an die Geschäftsfreunde zur Fortführung der Geschäfte duch die Berlin-Suhler Waffen- und Fahrzeugwerke GmbH "Waffa" Berlin und Suhl vom 20.09.1933 sowie Aufstellung über alle Schriftstücke der Akte."
So from September 20th 1933, the name of the concern was WAFFA; therefore, an offering from May 1933 would still be Simson.
Astoria was a trade-name centred around motorcycles or rubber baby buggy bumpers and me thinks it was during the time of BSW??
Cheers,

The likely location for a date would be on the barrels, not action flat. The barrel and forearm iron would normally have the same serial number as the receiver. Is there a number that appears in all 3 places? Does the logo match either of the ones on the flyer posted by Raimey? Mike

On a sidenote Birmingham Small Arms Company lodged a legal complaint against BSW for the acronym. Details would be most interesting.

As to the question of whether the gun had a second barrel set with rifle barrel; there is no set trigger, so I don't believe there was a second set. With extensive engraving like this, there is plenty of room for several different game scenes. Mike

There is a “2” on one of the barrel lug, any significance? JBP
