Can anyone provide insight about ( other than the gauge/chamber marks) the water table proof marks below? Three pyramids or triangles meaning/ the S? Thank you , Best Regards, JBP

J.B.Patton, The "S" looks like the "house mark" for Schilling Forge. The photo of the triangles is not clear enough for ID, It might be a post war "Quality" mark from East Germany or more likely a company logo. Mike

Can't see the photo very well. Looks like three adjacent triangles with an "S" in the center one. If so, that's Simson.

Simson 1900-1940 Suhl. Trademark: Three S in a pyramid, or Astoria. http://www.shotguns.se/html/german_trademarks.html

Triple S is Simson, after the 1933/34 absorption/commandeering/takeover but odd, odd that the Schilling touchmark of a S in a Chevron is present along w/ the bore and chamber depths(16 bore / 70mm)? Was there a brace of doubles, 1 & 2?
Cheers,

I thought the gun seems unusual, it has Spezial Gewuhr Lauf Stahl three ringbarrels ( sourced from Sauer?) and a sideplated box lock action, ejectors . Could it be a War era Simpson with Shilling action? Maybe a Trade gun built from available parts? No other indicators of manufacturer on barrels or receiver anywhere. Best Regards, JBP

I wonder if there was another matching rifle that came with the gun at some point- the engraving has roe deer and boar, along with asstd birds and dogs...... Late 30s gun? JBP

So, Spezial Gewehr Lauf Stahl w/ 3 Rings? What is the proof date on the flats? Unless it cobbled together during the latter stages of WWII or thereafter, it would have to be date bound between the dates of 1933/1934 & 1939 when Gustloff absorbed Simson. Is Simson in cursive on each tube?
Cheers,

So is the serial number 2290? If the 0533 is near the other proofmarks, that would fit nicely at May 1933. For a few months around this time they had another name but I can't raise it for the moment. WAFFA maybe?
Cheers,
