As you know I am in Houston. Its really bad here. Thankfully my house is on slightly higher ground. It has been raining on and off most of the night. Some gas stations were out of gas yesterday, many stores sold out of water. A small tornado hit about 10 miles south of me and did major damage to homes. Some of the banks of the bayou's are getting close to flood stage. This will be a major damage to homes along the bayou's. certain areas have no power. Yesterday most if no all of the schools were closed and some plan to be closed monday.

Man, I hate to hear the misery you TX folks are going through. We got lucky with Matthew here on the Georgia coast last October and as light as it struck us with a glancing blow, it still caused a mess that took weeks to straighten out. We had power crews from all over the US helping us get on our feet. Expect the same swarm of goodwill and help from all over the US. Behind my house a crew from Texas got us up and running. Georgia Power is on its way to help. Gil

I am about 25 miles South of Waco and on the Northern edge of the forecasted heavy rain. From the projections we will get a minimum of two inches and a max. of eight. Wind will not be an issue around here.
My daughter lives in Shinner, TX, and the center of the storm is near her now, but she lives on a hill and the wind is down to low Cat 1. She is safe.
The strange behavior of this storm, with the forecast loop and Eastward travel up the coast toward Houston, will really hurt the coastal plains. As John Boyd has already posted, Houston is already getting hit and the worst may be to come. I have a sister in Houston and so far she is safe, dry, and even has power.
Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts for us Texans.

We are in San Marcos in the middle of it now . However when it went down to a category one, it has thankfully given us only steady rain and wind and none of this 20 inches of rain and 60 mi winds. It is expected to stay here for another day or two with rain and moderate wind. 30-40 mi/hr
I just had an e mail from a friend of mine that lives in Rockport . They were out of town on vacation fortunately, BUT his house and belongings (Guns , ammo collections} are GONE.

This aggravating little SOB is gonna hang around through next Thursday and do nothing but suck moisture in from the Gulf and dump it over Galveston, Houston, and surrounding areas......rode out 6 of these since early childhood which is one reason I moved to the Panhandle of Texas (rain is a blessed event here). So far, in the past week, Texas has experienced burn bans in a couple of areas,(too dry) a 3.1 earthquake, a Category 4 hurricane, torrential rainfall, and 95 degree temperatures. I knew we were screwed when that Weather Channel drama queen Cantore showed up. It's never dull down here boys............

Gil I talked with my sister in Conn. yesterday and was amazed to hear they have convoyed of boats, truck loads of food and water and construction teams heading for Texas. Restores my faith in Americans. God bless all, the stricken and those who are able to help.
