Possibly yes.
One more info.
Book of Steve Dodd Hughes "Double guns and custom gunsmithing".
Somewhere in there the text
"... Bill Nittler, deceased, formerly of the Purdey American
repair station...".
All together a rather funny story.
It began with an obscure Chinese-character-look-alike
mark on a Springer-gun and ends as a signature mark of
a Purdey-gunsmith-craftsman located in California. His mark as
acceptance/quality mark for the sunny-boy-guntrader Kerr
of Beverly Hills.
The story could be closed if the die this late
William J. Nittler used for his signature could be found at his
entourage - child, grandchild, collegue, employee, collector...
And it would have a round end if sunnyboy Kerr could be shown in his white Rolls with one of the Beverly Hill celebrities.
....
Thank you once more for your valuable contribution.

One more coincidence:
There still exists an order-paper of a "Kerr's sportshop" for
Spinger's model PC37 nr. 10647 delivered then in 1952.

So was it ever decided what the mystery mark is?

I have at least three guns with the mark, along with bore diameter and either a 74 or 75.

I am curious not so much as to the origin of the markings but why the guns are so marked. Could it be that the barrels have been back bored? On one of mine the original .729 bore diameter has been crossed out.

Edit: can't get the images to work. Maybe someone can help?

Ok, to answer my own questions....I just spoke with a friend/mentor who has extensive and specific knowledge of the guns in question. He confirms that the mark is indeed that of William J. Nittler of San Francisco, California. The previous owner of the guns dealt with him directly for all barrel work. My friend guesses that the 74 & 75 refers to the year.

Sorry as I forgot to include the name:

"Bill Nittler, deceased, formerly of the Purdey American
repair station"

Those values may well be year dates beside the diameters?
