I have ordered a SXS double 303 British from Verney-Carron. I can specifiy the ammunition to be used for regulation if it can be obtained in France. I can't seem to identify any ammunition that is available both in the US and in France that I can select as ammunition with which to regulate the rifle. One possibility is Hornady 150 grain softpoints. Id rather have heavier bullets, but I have found none that are available in both countries. Any suggestions?

Maybe the Prvi Partizan 180's (soft point)?
What made you decide on a new rifle in 303?

Maybe, you can specify a bullet weight and velocity, or a bullet weight, type and velocity, that is similar to something here. Or, maybe better, load your own here to match what you specify. Maybe, they can give you an idea of how to anticipate changes from regulation.

Vol423, I suggest you have them tell you what is available in France, and select one of those that you can either buy, or match with your handloads. Mike

Hi Allan, The easiest would be to ask them what they have access to. I suspect they can get Sellier & Belot and PRVI. I don't know if RWS has that caliber available. Norma does not seem to. They can also get Kynoch I think, but of course that's very expensive, and it might take forever to import. The .303Br is a "new" caliber in France, as it had been banned from 1939 to a few years ago along with all the other military rounds! There are basically almost no weapons in France in that caliber. The most common double rifle rounds by far are 7x65R, 8x57JRS and 9.3x74R. Good luck with your project! WC-

Strange, they overlooked that regulation between 1914-1918 and again between 1939-1945, ditto the .30-06.

What I wanted was factory Ammo for regulation that I could buy in the US. It was fairly simple after I thought about it. Winchester and Federal make 180 grain ammo, and Verney-Carron bought Federal. I'll ask them to engrave "180 grain" on the gun. This gun also comes with 20Ga barrels. It's a true mirror image left hand SXS. I got a little greedy this year and also ordered a 28ga Chapuis with an extra set of 30-30 barrels (regulated with Hornady 160s). (NOTE: I already have double rifles in 250 Sav, 8X57 IRS, 9.3X74R and 450/400.) These guns are mostly for pheasant, chukar and quail hunting and the rifle barrels were ordered because I love two barrel sets.

Coming in a bit late on this, but believe Midway carries Kynamco .303 British ammo in the 215 grain load. I handload for my .303 double, and had it regulated for that weight of bullet at just over 2100 fps. Works well on African plains game.
Expect that, as we are still pre-BREXIT, your French gunsmith can readily get Kynoch ammo from Kynamco in the UK.

I have already made my choice in Federal 180 grain Ammo. The gun will be delivered soon.

VC finally had to settle for Hornady 150s, as their supplier couldnt get Federal or Winchester 180s. I dont want Kynoch as the quality has deteriorated, I have been told. Plus I already have Hornady 150s.
