I just acquired a nice double 8x57 JRS. I have several questions about load limits, loads, etc.
First, can someone tell me about Nimrod. I suspect it was, like Charles Daily, a company that contracted others to make guns under their name.
Second, it came with 3 rounds of S&B copper pointed rounds, and I've ordered three boxes of Privi Partisan,196 grs. I imagine the rifle is regulated (roughly?) to this load. I would appreciate anyone sharing their experience with this round in any break-open rifle or drilling. I want to be careful not to exceed or push its limits.

Nimrod was a great-grandson of Noah and reputed to be a "mighty hunter" so the name has been used by a few makers, much like "Diana" models.

Most prominently it was used by the firm of Thieme & Schlegelmilch but I would think those names would be on your gun somewhere.

Without a makers name "Nimrod" will take some research to find a maker, if at all.

Also you have verified bore diameter, the 8X57 came in .318 and .323. YES I know the JRS is .323, just being careful

The odds are on your gun being a T&S, trademark Nimrod. It is also very likely that it is intended for 8x57IR, rather than IRS.
Photos of proof marks and "slugging" the bore will tell the tale. Most 8x57 IRSs are post 1939-post war, that is not to say that you can't use 8x57IRS ammo in it. I guess you have fired it and have cases fired in it's chamber. If a .323" bullet( the full diameter shank)will fit easily into the fired case, you should be able to use IRS ammo, even if intended for IR.

Thanks to each of you for your posts and welcome. I can't find another name on the gun but it may be that a mark on the water table of barrel flat will give a clue -- when I learn how to post a picture. I have slugged the bore and it is .323".
I will soon learn if it's regulated to the Privi Partisan factory load and, if it is, will match that chorongraphed velocity with the same weight bullet. I plan to reload for it with a heavy cast bullet too, 174grs if I remember correctly. That may be a regulation challenge. I would welcome any loading data. For now, I plan to mic the pressure ring of a Privi Partisan factory round and use that as an indicator of maximum loads with Privi brass.

Nimrod action double shotguns, double rifles and drillings are now being manufactured by the Suhl gunsmiths Retz und Sohn. Torsten Retz is restoring an original Thieme & Schlegelmilch Nimrod drilling for me at the present time. http://www.retzandson.com/de/jagdgewehre/nimrod-gewehre

The Retz website is very interesting, if beyond my means. Hidden therein is mention of a couple interesting calibers that I'm not familiar with- 9x69R and 6x52R. Is any one familiar with them?

Basically .22 Sav. necked up to .243 diameter

The other one I never heard of. Might be a necked-up .30 Blaser rimmed, this has a case length of 68 mm.

There was a 9x69R Peterlongo, also called 9x69R Austria or 9x69R P'longo.

Retz created a new 9x69R (by Samereier), a shortened and blown up 9.3x74R with .358 bullet.
