This has information about Whitworth, Siemens, and the stronger steels available c. 1890 https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dnRLZgcuHfx7uFOHvHCUGnGFiLiset-DTTEK8OtPYVA/editSir Joseph claimed in 1873 that his No. 1 Red Gun Barrel Steel had a tensile strength of 40 tons/89,600 psi, but other sources reported 66,000 - 67,200 psi; about the same as cold rolled decarbonized steel.

As I understand it the matter of Whitworth Steel being "Compressed" was not for the purpose of increasing its strength, just to assure it was free of voids. It was in effect thus simply a low carbon steel which would explain why the 3 band English Laminated steel beat it in the trials.

As per Dr. Wood's analysis of the Birmingham Proof Trials, the results were skewed in favor of the Laminated tubes. One of the three Laminated samples took an inordinately large amount of pressure before failing, whereas the other two Laminated samples failed around where you'd expect pattern welded tubes to fail, around the 50,000psi range. Perhaps Joe will give a better explanation when he sees this. A little more light may eventually be shed on the Laminated issue, as I'm sending a 2-iron Laminated section to DocDrew for testing in his next shipment.

The house I was raised in, in Rockville, MD, built in 1948, has Krupp marked pipe in the crawl space under the house. I assume that such pipe was sold at surplus after the war to anyone who wanted to bid on it.

Here it is in Uhmarekin, but no idea what the stuff was  Acier clair 7.10 Kg/cm2 = 103,000 psi Acier Antinit (Nickel) 9.45 Kg/cm2 = 137,000 psi

Likely Bohler Antinit with a reported yield strength of 116,600 psi and ultimate strength of 138,000 psi
I don't see a date on that catalog, but Bohler Rostfrei Laufstahl (chrome-molybdenum-vanadium) was introduced 1912. The move to Rue 56 was 1949.
