TED, Mine was similar, but had much more engraving on the receiver; and had a "bright finish" on the receiver. A 12 gauge. Good gun, it never gave me any problems. The right barrel was marked Richland Arms.

Nice looking piece. Appears to be a sideplated boxlock, but, hard to tell for sure from the single picture.
Thanks.
Best, Ted

Ted, considering that I've owned 2 of those P-G made Richland 20's, I've always wondered about the 250 total as well.
The only other source I have on P-G, other than the Blue Book, is Carder's Side by Sides of the World. Even less info than the BB, and doesn't provide any answers to your questions.

When did Richland start operations? A local shop sold these in the late 50s and early 60s. The ones I remember were sideplate box lock guns of decent quality, I don't recall Richland marking on them.
I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong

Richland Arms imported both Spanish made guns and Italian made guns, but no one here can find any history on their Italian made guns built by PRANDELLI-GASPERINI.

I don't know exactly when Richland started, or, more importantly to this discussion, started importing Prandelli & Gasperini doubles. The sum total of what I can say for sure is that, like Mike pointed out, P&G doesn't seem to be in business anymore, Richland definitely isn't in business anymore, and some very good finishing effort went into the P&G guns, considering what they cost. If I find another P&G like the one I've got, at the price the Blue Book says they are worth, I just might buy it. Nice guns. Not much money. My favorite combination. As it goes with smaller gun manufacturers sometimes, that may be all the hard information we ever get about them. Best, Ted

I would contact the Brescian Proof House, Chamber of Commerce, some local museum and archives. If I could not find respective addresses, I would contact Italian Embassy. Also an email to some Italian gun writer or editor (say, Diana Armi) might get results.
With kind regards, Jani

PS: I have just checked www.armiusate.itThere are a number of Prandelli & Gasperini guns for sale, starting from 100 euros. A very nice sidelock is offered at no more than one thousand euros. Likely some of the sellers know something of the company. With kind regards, Jani

A quick googling resulted in these additional notes on Prandelli & Gasperini: Established 1960. Known for good guns with nice engraving, also short barrels; but they also made some 'cheap' guns, including folding single barrel shotguns. in 1971, 250 guns were exported to France. An early hammer gun shows Belgian Cocquerill barrels; some barrels were reportedly made by Sabatti. Supposedly closed in the early 1990s?
With kind regards, Jani
