I am hoping someone can help me find this answer? How much weight difference is there in the 12ga Wingmaster standard weight 26" barrel and the 28" standard barrel? I am trying to lighten up this 12ga, but save some dollars by purchasing used rather than a new light contour barrel. Thank-you, Kurt

I'll guess 2 oz.

I'll guess 2 oz. Not enough to make me buy another barrel. But the choice is yours, of course.

Thanks Jim! After I actually thought about it(sometime after I posted) I realized about the same as you stated. I appreciate you thoughts. Thanks again. Kurt

Dave McCracken is the guy you need to ask.

He hangs out mostly at thehighroad.com

I think that the Light contour is quite a bit lighter than they heavy "lawsuit" barrels with RemChokes. I think it is just a bit lighter than the older fixed choke barrels.

You are somewhat in luck.
Wingmaster 870 28" scew choke barrel 2# 8.3oz
Wingmaster 879 28" Light Contour barrel 2# 0.1oz
Take another 2oz off for the 26" barrel and you have the difference.
It seems that Remington has thier head stuck somewhere. The new Wingmaster 870 Premier 12 gauge besides being ugly as sin, is too light for serious waterfowling. Who wants to lug a 7# 3.5oz pump for upland hunting which is what it weighs?-Dick

The 26" LC barrels are quite light. I have a 26" LC barrel on my Express "all weather" gun and pheasant hunted with it in the rain more last year than five years previous (lots of rain last year :-( . The original gun it was on was under 7lbs but on the express it's just over. Balances nice with a synthetic stock and I have killed load of geese with it. I never noticed the recoil till I was shooting 3" TM last year and started to get a head ache! Normally I shoot 2 3/4" steel and have no problems.

The barrel is loaned out right now or I would weigh it. Turns out with a Tru-glo adjustable choke it makes a great sporting clays barrel and a friend will be using it for the Pa state shoot.

Erik, Tim & Dick- Thanks very much for the information. I will have to go with the light contour 26" to get what I want! Thanks again for the help! Kurt
