His word and honor, he doesn't have much left after that.

Ah yes, good of you to explain why you really weren't able to consummate the deal.

I told him I had even sold a couple of rare pistols to help finance this deal."

So at the end of the day you no longer have the "rare pistols" and left without the Winchester you wanted, but you don't think you were duped or scammed?

So, with your own choice of words, you must either be retarded or dim-witted. Which, by your estimation are not synonyms for stupid, so don't feel too bad about it.

Still waiting for your plan on how you would prevent this from happening again, so we all might learn from this incident? Or do you just have more insults to hurl?

There's nothing you can do about it except avoid him at all costs. There's no dealing with someone you cannot trust to keep his word or who has no integrity, or even worse, no honor.

How common is it to hand over your credit card before you make a deal?

The seller must have seen Model 21 Tournament Skeet 20ga topic on Winchester Shotguns portion of Shotgun World Forums. I admit just like Ole' Klunkmeister I have never understood and still do not understand infatuation people have for the Winchester Model 21 shotgun.

I have never heard of this. Normally seller and buyer agree on the price and exchange takes place. It is either done face to face between two residents of same state or interstate through FFL dealer.
I would suggest Winchester 21 lovers look at other options out there. My latest find is wildfowling piece from famous English heavy game rifle maker. It has nicely scrolled A&D action with square bolt, good wood, horn butt plate, long thick walled barrels with appropriate 70mm chambers heavy 1&1/4oz proof and wide file cut rib. Very worthy competition for field grade model 21 12ga at about 1/3 of cost.

A common circumstance in sales of anything. Assholiness abounds. If you expect purity, honesty, and honor from everyone you meet you are doomed to disappointment. Get over it.
