Does anyone have pressure data for Fiocchi factory loads? In particular, I am looking at 1278OZ8 load which is advertised as a trainer 12 gauge load. It is 7/8 ounce at 1200 fps. I called Fiocchi twice and finally got them to say it was between 6500 and 7500 psi. This seems like a wide range. These are soft shooting loads.

I bought a bunch of those (7/8oz, #8 at 1200) a few years ago and called Fiocchi at that time. Shells are in offsite storage at the hidden bunker, but I think they told me 6600 at the time. I use them in my laminated steel Brit hammer gun with no problems.

Could well be that they use different powders batch to batch, maintaining consistency in velocity but not necessarily pressure. Might explain the 1,000 psi difference. Do the boxes show the CIP seal? That's one clue--although CIP shells for "standard proof" guns have a ceiling of 10,730 psi, which is higher than many would like to go unless their shotgun has a modern proof or reproof at 850 bar.

The correct marketing answer was "7,000."
"Hey, Boss, the guy wants to buy a blue car."
"Turn on the blue lights."

I have used those Fiocchi "trainer"loads before. Not sure what the pressure rating is but they were some very light recoiling shells.

Most of the major ammo companies especially with center fire cartridges load to pressure levels first and velocity second. When they do a production run they buy powder in huge quantities, so they put together a recipe for that powder batch that are within SAMMI spec's, or a pressure level they want to try to reach. Making dirty auto loaders work is more a priority and money maker than any low pressure loads they will sell to "us".

I sent some 16ga 1oz 1165fps fiocchi loads to Tom a few years ago for the 16ga society.....some remingtons too. the fiocchi came in at 1165 and 7700.. the remingtons were 1145ish and a little higher pressure, not big difference but there was a difference on the shoulder.
i might have some of the details backwards...should all be on 16ga.com archives.
best, mark.
Ms. Raven
