If Purdey gave you that information on the gun from its serial number the chances that it is a low value Belgian or Birmingham made look alike is extremely slim. And let’s get things in proportion! The name Purdey and a gun carrying the name has something that very few other gun’s and makers have, a certain “Je Ne Sais Qui” and more so from the very early days of Purdey’s. There are not many people who are lucky enough to own a Purdey for a start, find yourself a recommended Gun Smith specialising in Antique & Vintage British first line makers and listen to what he has to say, use the right craftsmen or you may find yourself learning an extremely expensive lesson in more ways than one . If you can afford to have the gun restored by all means do so eventually in time you may even break even, and how can you put a price on when someone asks what make is the gun, and you reply Purdey!

The only lessons in my life I truly did learn from where the ones I paid for!

Send the stock to DES, the stock dr. Amazing work, fair prices and you will be happy with the out come. Triggers and trigger guard can be fabricated. They do not need to look new to be a nice and useful restoration. If the bores are good this could be worthy.

Question No. 1 is "do you wish to keep the gun?" and 1a is "do you wish to shoot the gun?"

If you want to keep the gun, and shoot it, then have the repair work done by an expert in high grade English MLs, and no one else.

If your desire is to sell the gun, YOU should not contract for ANY restoration work. The purchaser will want to do that.

This is all such great information! Mr Stolzer gave me information about the triggers and he certainly seems like he's legit.

http://stolzergunsmithing.com/

I have no intention of trying to fire it. What constitutes "restoration"? Is having a stock put back together (it is obvious some one did try to glue it back together at some time)? I assume having triggers made or repaired is?

If you are in AZ your closest, and excellent choices would be Steve Bertram who posted under SKB on the first page of the thread, or David Yale in Delta, CO 970-874-1088. Joe Wood might comment on Yale's work. I would recommend a face-to-face transfer to talk over options.

There are many others. Please respect the gun and maker and have things done correctly.

He wants it to be a wall-hanger guys. Let him cobble it back together with these two dudes he mentioned and let it fade back into obscurity.
