I bough that plan and it is similar expect it has one barrel. I actually have the trigger guard, it's the triggers that are broken.

It's amazing the assumtions people make...John, I am the owner of Stolzer and Son's Gunsmithing and I've never "cobbled" anything in my life. I apprenticed under a master gunsmith then worked part time for 4 years before opening my own shop as a fulltime custom gunmaker. Which I have been doing for the last 10 years. I specialize in pre-1898 Big Bore(muzzleloading and Cartridge) and Muzzleloading Double Rifles. Just because my name is not famous does not mean that I lack the skill or intergity to do the job. It means I don't need any more publicity than I already have because with a 2.5 year backlog more advertising doesn't actually help me.

The fact that he found me on youtube really doesn't mean much either since even Holland and Holland have their own youtube channel. It just means that I use youtube as a venue to show/share some of the builds and knowledge I have.

Perhaps you should have some knowledge about a person or their business before you decide they are just some "dude" who is going to "cobble" this guys gun back together.

If you've got 10 or so hours and want to actually evaluate whether I have the skills to do this work you can watch the fully documented build of a 10 Bore 1844 Purdey SxS Rifle reproduction(replica) on my youtube channel: link - 1844 playlist on my youtube channel

Early Purdey book shows the serial number as a 10 gauge "bullet gun" under the shotgun list. Made in 1860 serial 5914. No sights are evident on the rib.

Could a repair to the original wood not be carried out ? I seen a magazine article before on a new high end shotgun (can't remember if it was a holland, purdey or boss) that the stock was broken in an accident. The stock was repaired with a titanium pin and modern epoxy glues.

As "odd" as it seems guitars and such are made out of wood just like this stock is. When going over it with my buddy I said I didn't intent to fire it so we think the modern glue he uses will be good. The information I have seen ion stock repair for weapons that will be fired included rods and Acraglas.

A good sympathetic restoration after an appraisal to see if the work is justified may be a good way to go. If Purdey's did the job, and they would, it would cost an arm and a leg. Lagopus.....

you are better off leaving it as is and letting someone do a proper repair in the future than doing one that just looks good now. The gun would look great on anyone's wall as is. Guitars and guns are similar but not the same. If your buddy sands the wood below the metal like most people do then there is no going back. Same goes if he puts one of those real pretty high gloss guitars finishes on it.

No sanding, just put it back together with the existing pieces. There is nothing holding the stock together, I just lid it on the ground and fit them together for the photo's.
