I just bought a Remington 1900 12 ga. In 90% condition for just over $200.00. Barrels were perfect, good case color and no signs of stock splitting at the head. I often watch 1900 and 1894 sell for less than Sterlingworths, flues or even Nitro Specials. Are there any more less apriciated guns?

I don't think so. I've got one 1900 and two 1894 B grades. Less than $1100 to buy all three.

I have not bought nor sold a great number of guns compared to many but if there is a greater swing in prices seemingly unrelated to condition or even brand in any hard product I've not seen it. Bargains and head scratchers abound but make it equally as hard to buy/sell sometimes.

A 28-ga. Parker Reproduction DHE with a SG, SPL & DT in high original condition will typically sell for ~ $5000.00. Find an original Parker Bros. 28-ga. DHE in the same identical configuration and condition and you'll mortgage your house to get it.

Seems here that sellers believe anything marked Remington or Winchester is made of gold.

Up here in Canada, I have never seen a grade higher than B. We get 1900's and A's, B's and F's. I think the most I can remember for an asking price on any of the ones I have seen is $700. And that is in Canadian dollars, currently less than $500 USD.

You are right on Winchesters, wrong on Remingtons.

Remington 1900's are very solid guns, in line with Sterlingworths, Ithaca field, LCS field, etc. They are under-appreciated, and often under-priced.

Remington 1894's are some of my FAVORITE American doubles...even as owning one has thus far eluded me. These are harder to find in B and higher grade, but are wonderful guns! SUPER under-appreciated.

As for your comment about Winchester, you are 600% correct. I marvel at the out-sized premium those guns get when compared to competitors which are equally good guns. I'm thinking Win levers vs Marlin levers, Winchester model 21 vs Ithaca NID, etc. Maybe it's the use of the name in movies, or maybe it's because of John Brown's giant shadow.

I very much like some Winchesters but simply CANNOT justify the premium when there are other just as good guns to collect for far less money.

Nudge, don't know where you hail from but you'll note I said HERE, and I was referring to sellers in my part of the world. This is 12-gauge-auto-loader-with-the-plug-out country, and in that realm Remington is well known and well respected; I suspect local sellers price their Remington wares with that mind set. I don't think you'll find any $200 Remington doubles around here that are worth owning. JMO of course.
