I believe those old timey hammer singles may be the most elegant guns there are. I had an English one in 16ga made by Greener under the J.V. Needham name. The non-rebounding hammer was quick to cock when at the half cock position, but even though it had a 30" barrel it was just too light to be manageable. I sold it to another poster here...Geo

Wow! Fantastic collection. 4 bores here in Britain fetch big money as they can be both collected without any form of certificate required (if pre 1939) and also still be legally used for wildfowling. You are very fortunate to have collected them. Lagopus.....

My Father told me of a small town museum in Kansas that had a 4 bore single shot and a box of 24 shells with it!?! Go figure. MKII

A good friend that just passed away owned 10 4 bores, 7 single shot and 3 doubles. The T. Mullin had 48" barrels and a Holland & Holland had 42 1/8" barrels. I measured all of the bores and chokes and most were around .938 and one was smaller at .910. I don't know what the doubles weighed but were very, very heavy. He wanted me to shoot one sometime. He was reloading them and had a fellow in New York state make shells for him, paper case and a copper head. He gave me one of the hulls, makes for a great conversation. The rim diameter is 1.180 and the base diameter is 1.065. This compared to a 10 ga., rim dia. .910, base dia. .850.
He will be greatly missed.

Raimey, Thanks for posting and corrections-Linder mark not Belgium proof and 31 5/8 in =80 cm Sneider has no BBI marks but he did get BBL's from Germany usually JDW-if your friend was from Long Island then these were his guns- Got them 2-3 months ago. The T Mullin was probably P Mullin New York have had 2 48 in Mullins in past-could not afford to keep them at the time Thanks for the interest and posts Bill
