Ive posted this before but never learned anything about the gun. Does anybody here recoginze the action? It dosent look like any of the English guns I have seen so I want to believe that it was made in the USA. It has steel barrels. Ross

David Kirkwood (Boston) died in 1897. His 2 sons and Daighter continued as Kirkwood Bros. Mostly imported guns and probably stamped their name on a few. Some D Kirkwood guns have barrells with provinal proofs. What are the barrell markings distal to the Proof marks? Is there a Serial #? Kirkwood Bros. was known to import Cashmore Gun-Could this be one? Nice guin. Bill Mcphail

Reb, thanks for the efforts on this post and others to "get to the bottom" of things. I have a Kirkwood Bros 10 bore with virtually identical locks. But, my gun has very fine Damascus steel and disc strikers. On the barrel flats of the right barrel I see W.P.J. . Now, I think research from some time age suggested [from my memory] W. P. Jones. Maybe that is a lead to who made the gun for Kirkwood Bros.

Reb, can you find similiaritys in this patent to your gun? My gun has the serial no. [??] 1415 stamped between the firing pins on the breech face. No other numbers that I can see.

Daryl, My gun looks different (springs,Cocking mech etc) but your article mentions modifications. Bill, The serial is #1424, no other proof marks on the flats, just the two shown on the barrels. Thanks, Ross

Reb, I think the above patent is for cocking. Your gun and mine are the same in that respect and look like they may use the Jones cocking patent. Note the screw in the bar behing the hinge pin. That would hold the rod "E" shown on the patent drawing. ??

Daryl,The screw does hold the cocking rod but it is one piece(the rod). There is no cam and no part of the cocking mechanism rotates on the hinge pin. I wish there was some other markings somewhere on the gun.

Reb, I was reading the patent in the last line or so, under modifications where the camb and sliding rod are eliminated and a straight rod is used. Maybe wishfull thinking.
