just got a nice Geco side by side gun in 16b with belgian proofmarks. 30" barrels, Anson&Deely with Greener cross-bolt.
date letter f for 1927 and the usual belgian proofmarks.
was hoping it might be FN made, but cannot find any marks for that.
One mark I cannot identify (probably barrel maker) is JBL on each barrel just in front of the flats
Has anyone identified that mark?
Will take some photos tomorrow and put them up here
regards

Günter, the culprit of the encirced C is leaning toward Cordy. I'm been pondering on the L of the JBL & I wonder if it an initial or a location(Liege), which is non-typical on Belgian wares.

Kind Regards,

Hello Raimey,
I am not familiar with Cordy - barrelmaker?
on the JBL I had the same train of thought - L for Liege or an initial? - don't know.
there is a list of Belgian makers marks/names on damascus-barrels.com -
JBL is in that list, but it says: unknown
- so much for that
- my luck to have a barrel with the one mark which seems to be unknown...

regards

Günter:
I'll work on the possibilities when I have a tick. Here's ole Cordy, fits time frame:

There's several threads on Antoine Cordy:

Raimey & all
I have seen this 'C' in a circle somewhere before -
just can't remember whether it was here on this forum or even on one of my guns
must take the time and look through my guns and check the barrels

The reason for the exercise - apart from gaining knowledge - is simply to find out whether I got a bargain or not.
I like the gun, so it doesn't really matter - but still nice to know.

Best regards

Mike,
what are the marks on your gun in front of the marks shown in your pics?
Is there a three-letter code, perhaps even JBL?

very far fetched: John Moses Browning was working with FN in Liege/Belgium from 1897 till his death in 1926 - I don't suppose JBL could stand for John Browning Liege?

The positioning of the marks on the barrels would however point more to a barrel maker

Best regards

Gunter,

There are NO marks forward on the barrel past the serial number
except these

As seen above in the picture of the monoblock, there appears to be a "V" and maybe a "P"

"JP" on the forend catch is the same as the mark used by Jacques Pirotte et Fils. (et Fils means, by the way, "and sons").

As to JBL, this could perhaps be:

Lehanne, Jean Baptiste, 18 Rue du Coin, Herve, (Liege).

or

Lhonneux, JB, (or JD), Liege. Perhaps too early for your side by side.

You'll find the following is very useful for Belgian gun trademarks. Indexed by surnames, so look up "L" to follow up "JBL". However, it does not record these particular 3 letters, just lots more like them.

Good luck.
