Greetings all,

I am thinking about purchasing my first double rifle and wanted some thought and opinions regarding the 577/500 No.2 cartridge.

Would it be suitable for hunting deer and elk?
How is the availability of brass and bullets? It looks like both are available from my searches on the internet.
Any issues trying to regulate it beyond the normal range of problems?
Any general thoughts or comments would be welcome.

In case you have not seen this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.500_No._2_Express

No problem for elk or deer, I would stay inside the range
in which you can shoot a 4 inch group. Perhaps 150 yards??

Should not cause regulation issues, is the gun marked for regulation?

Perfect, just the info I was looking for.
I was hoping that there would be some load info engraved on the gun but unfortunately there is not. In fact, I would need to verify the actual cartridge as the 577/500 No.2 is a circumstantial guess. The gun has some brass with it and the brass will chamber but I would still do a cast to make sure...
I wish that the buy-in on English rifles was not so high!

It'll be great for almost everything in NA except for brownies.
You need to get Graheme Wrights book Shooting the British Double rifle. Read it thru a time or two so you understand about these wonderful beasts. It's got load info also! I've got 2 577/500 Mags and a #2. Great rifles.

You could wander up for our DR shoot in a month or so. laugh
