Hello All
I inherited a JP Sauer & Sohn side by side from my father. I'm trying to track down mfg date and looking for help. I had contacted JP Sauer & Sohn GmbH and received the response below. I estimate the date to be between 1951 & 1954.
Anyone who can provide more information & approx. Value it will be greatly appreciated. I do not have the ability to load pictures here, but I can email them upon request.

Bill

Dear Mr Sahler,

J. P. Sauer & Sohn is the company with the longest history of manufacturing premium quality weapons in Germany.

Founded 1751 in Suhl/Thuringia it experienced an eventful past in the last 260 years.

Until 1950 there was a wide range of defensive, military and hunting weapons built in Suhl. At the end of the Second World War many buildings were destroyed because of arson, among them the archive.

The company was expropriated in 1947 and left the Eastern Sector of Germany to move to Eckernförde in the very north, where the production of rifles and shotguns went on from 1951 until autumn 2009.

Only since this relatively short time J. P. Sauer & Sohn has been working here in Isny/Allgäu- in the deepest south.

That’s the reason why we do not have any information about pre-war guns, neither does Eckernförde.

Yours sincerely,

Dorothee Holland-Merten

Thanks for the info. Someone on another site told me that the DE on the barrel stood for 1954. I Saw the 9 62 and wondered if that meat 1962.
I was told that since in was made in W-Germany meaning it was made in SUHL that it would be earlier, is this not correct.

By any chance would you know a approx. value of this item?

They should have been in Eckernförde. Maybe Ford was there by that time.

The oak leaf notes that the sporting weapon experienced proof in Eckernförde in 1962.

DE is the tube maker/source
