Greetings mates,
I have a 12 ga. field grade Elsie that I found out the hard way I had lost the cocking plate and retaining screw in the forearm iron. I found out on my second shots at the Southern after taking the gun across the country. Sigh.
Anyway, no one had any parts at the Southern. I was told by a few folks that the part(s) may have to be made. (Another sigh.)
I would appreciate any suggestions or advice on getting this repaired from the Gurus on the board.
Best Regards, RCC

Jake, Numrich has the cocking plate but not the screw. If I remember correctly the screw is a standard thread and should be relatively easy to find.

Gunparts (Numrich) does carry the cocking plate. The screw is 4x40, approx 1/4" long. The cocking plate is usually 1/16" (.062) but you might have to file it thinner if you are having problems recocking the gun. The screw head might have to be filed on a slight angle to fit right because the counterbore in the forend iron might not be deep enough or the screw head might be thicker and it will protrude.

Well, you all are great. You can have my stars. Anyway, great about the cocking plate but suggestions on where to buy the "screw is 4x40, approx 1/4" long" on the net fast and easy? I am greedy on this forum. Honest, you can have one of my stars. Heck, have them both but help me fix this Elsie. Thanks, RCC
