About a month ago, I posted about receiving an old Sauer 16 gauge hammergun I had purchased from out of state. UPS had broken the stock in two at the wrist. Revdocdrew recommended Craig Libhart at Susquehanna Stockworks if I decided to keep the gun. I spoke with Craig several times, and he was extremely friendly and helpful. I e-mailed him the same photos I posted here, and he provided me with a tentative quote based on the pictures and my description. I got the stock back today. The repair is virtually invisible. If I had chosen to have the checkering recut,I am sure the repair would be completely undetectable. Craig had the stock less than 4 weeks! He kept me informed during the process, and e-mailed me a close up of the tenon fitted up and glued before re-inletting the triggerguard. He put up with my stupid questions, and replied quickly to each e-mail. I can not recommend him highly enough. The most incredible part of this whole process was Craigs honesty. The bill for repairing the stock was 40% less than the quote! He told me it was a more straight forward repair than he had thought, so the cost went down. I never heard that before. I chose not to recut the checkering. If the gun functions properly, I will have Craig restock it with some great english walnut. The stock actually is a nice piece of wood, but in a prior refinish was sanded too much. My RST 7/8ths 0unce shells should be here Friday, and I will see how it shoots. For just over 500.00 I have an extremely thin, light, round action sidelock hammergun that fits me great. I am extremely happy I kept it rather than returning it to the seller due to the broken wrist. Thanks to Revdocdrew for the recommendation, and a giant thanks to Craig for the work he did for me!

Bill

Great news Bill! Could you please re-post the 'before' and also 'after' pics so I can add them to the 'Repairs and Restorations' PictureTrail? It's always a concern providing recomendations, but these great guns deserve the best. Here's Craig's contact infro:

treblig1958 and Revdoc, I just got done cutting my grass, it was about ready to bale. Fed and watered the chukars, and took my Llewellin and GSP for a run and a little swim. My camera batteries are charging now. i will take some pictures tomorrow afternoon and post them. Revdocdrew, would it be better to e-mail the photos to you?
I really can't say enough about Craig. He actually shipped my stock back with an invoice, didn't ask for payment in advance. He has the highest recommendation I could give, and he deserves it. Doing business with him was a pleasure.
