In the FWIW Dept.:

1) Lack of rotational speed can & will increase the difficulty of target breakage at some unknown, but likely exponential factor/rate as rotational speed decreases.

2) Grease the 'arm' on a regulation ATA trap or DTL trap and 16 yard targets become almost impossible to break.

3) Set a standard clay target made from pitch on the smaller flexible limb or limbs of a bush, dome up. Back up a measured 40 yards and try & break it with your tightest choked/best patterning gun & #7.5 [.095"] shot and quite likely you won't be able to do it with ten shots.

Target rotational speed or rather lack of, may play a significant role in the difficulty associated w/the "devil's clay trap". Sounds like good fun to me!
