Dan Lefever was a regular participant, and occasional winner, in tournaments in the Northeast, especially New York State. While traveling to promote Lefever guns and the Lefever-Singer gun cleaner, he also competed in the Midwest as far as St. Louis.

In 1885, Rolla Heikes was the first industry representative, with Lefever, and the 1892 Lefever catalog contains an 1888 testimonial from Rolla. At some point he switched to a L.C. Smith, and later a Winchester 1893 Repeater.
W.T. DeWolf represented Lefever in 1898 as did A.H. Durston starting about 1904.

Lefever guns were quite popular with shooters in New York State and Canada.

R. R. Barber (using a Lefever), an amateur from Paullina, Iowa, won the Preliminary and Grand American, from a field of 335 of the best shots in America with a score of 99x100, and the preliminary with a score of 98x100. In the Consolation Handicap he scored 97x100, and he also made a run of 157 straight.

April 17 1908 Sporting Life
Lexington, Ky., April 10. More than one hundred shooters took part in the spring opening of the Fayette Gun Club near this city April 1, among which were many of the crack shots of the United States. Several good records were established, one of the most notable of which was that of W.R. Crosby, who broke 149 out of 150 birds shot at during the day. Crosby began the day shooting with four other well-known experts. This squad consisted of Fred Gilbert (Parker), William Heer (Remington C.E.O.), C.O. LeCompte (Lefever), Charles Young (Winchester 1897) and W.R. Crosby (Parker). They broke 740 out of the 750 birds.

Professional Championship– Fred Gilbert (Parker) and R. R. Barber (Lefever), of Iowa, tied in the professional championship. Both made 188x200, and in the shoot-off Gilbert broke 20 birds straight and Barber 17.
Amateur Championship- George Roll, 183x200 then 19x20 shoot-off. Four men broke 183 in the amateur championship. Roll, of Illinois won the shoot-off over D. Upson, of Ohio; Charles Ditto, of Illinois; and H.E. Buckwalter (Lefever).
1st Double-Bird Shoot - 20 targets – H.E. Buckwalter, Royersford, Pa. with 18.

E.W. Arnold, a lawyer from Crawford County, won the 1905, 1906, 1908, 1909, 1910 and 1914 Kansas State Championships
