A friend is disposing of a GTI and asked if I can use it. I know that, being dedicated target guns, they only came with 2-3/4" chambers.
If it's steel safe I could see using it for waterfowl. The gun is from the early 1990's.
If the barrels are steel safe is the gun a candidate for opening up to 3"?
thanks, Rob

Rather than give an opinion, please read here http://www.browning.com/customerservice/qna/detail.asp?id=128On rechambering, my opinion, NO, why modify this gun when there are so many others available with 3" chambers. Why take the chance Mike

All shotguns made for Browning by Miroku are OK with steel. However, basically all the Belgian-made Brownings, per Browning, are NOT OK with steel.

Larry,
While I, personally, agree with your above statement as far as MY use of steel in my BSS goes, notice that it does not agree with Browning's statement. I have shot 3" steel loads, up to and including no. 3s, in my 30" BSS for many years with no ill effects. Important to note that I opened the left barrel to the same constriction as the right, which is .018".
From Browning's statement above:
3. DO NO USE ANY STEEL SHOT LOADS:
The Belgian-made A-5, Superposed, Leige, and other Belgian Over/Under models, Double Automatic, American-made A-5 and all other models not listed in category 1 or 2.
The BSS is not listed in Cat. 1 or 2, so falls under this caveat in Cat. 3.
SRH
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Recoil Rob, free is GOOD, use it with 2 3/4 non-tox or steel ammo, What fun, what fun ! I rarely use 3" steel, Only for Sandhill crane and Geese when hunted together. I find the 2 3/4 steel ammo fine for ducks and geese when pond hunting. I mainly use an OLD non-engraved Pre Type 1 (Manufactured 1973 through 1976) Citori with IC/MOD fixed chokes and have had no issues even using BBB for crane and geese.
