Hi John:

He said that he did the following:

Open one choke to I.C. and one to mod. $100.00?

Backbore both barrels $100.00?

Put back on face $125.00?

Bend the stock for less drop. $100.00 but it did not work after two tries. The stock returned to the same amount of drop that it had before the two attempts to bend it.

I haave no idea as to how he determined that the gun would be safe for any factory ammo. I,as a layman, can only take an experts opinion based on his experience.

Why the gun was off face was a mystery to me. The gun did not look like it had been shot much.

Thanks for the help,

Franchi

Only your smith can answer, but the "Backbore" was almost surely honing to remove pits. I would not fire the gun without knowing the wall thickness at the end of the chamber, forcing cones, 9" from the breech, 9" from the muzzle, and MWT and where.

Honing is a few thousands of an inch while back boring may be .010 or more. Minor compared to major metal removal. You can hone without a reamer. I would have the barrels measured just to be on the safe side. Perhaps you are close enough to a board member that they can do it for you. Never hurts to ask.
