Gentlemen, I just thought I would mention this as I have heard the subject mentioned here before. A friend showed me a Parker shotgun he was given in payment for mowing a gentlemen's lawn-FOUR TIMES. It was a field grade, 2 trigger gun and the front trigger fired the left barrel, the rear, fired the right. I can say I've seen it myself!

Best to all,

Kurt

Not really a feat of magic. The "front" trigger is also the right trigger on most guns. All that would be necessary to make the "front" trigger fire the left barrel first would be to switch them in their slots. Then the "front" trigger would also be the left trigger.
What is truly magic about the story is that the lucky guy who mowed the gentleman's lawn was given the gun. That's a magic moment, indeed!
Great story, Kurt!

How big was the lawn, did he mow the back 40 four times?

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

He probably mowed the lawn with a manual push mower in 1955 when those old fasioned double barreled guns weren't needed any more. I've heard more than one story of people finding guns in the trash can on trash day. In fact I purchased a Daisy model 25 BB gun from a guy who found it in the trash can.

I am aware this is a doublegun board, but I know a guy who received a browning a5 in the same fashion. His elderly neighbor passed away and the next time he mowed his lawn, he just kept going and mowed the widow's lawn too. He kept this up and one day while mowing, he looked up to see the widow walking over to him DRAGGING the a5 by the bbl across the lawn. It was a like new Belgium round knob 12 ga.

As far as I know, he is still mowing that lawn.

I snow blow, with my tractor, the widow down the roads driveway in the winter.I won't take her money so one day she gave me a MI carbine that belonged to her husband.I told her several times that I could not accept it as she had a son who I thought should have it.I cleaned it up the best I could (very rusty from years of poor storage),and returned it so she could give it to her son.
Of course if she drags out a Parker(or Luger) one day I may have trouble doing that again !

Best "Trash Can Gun" story I ever heard was the one about a guy vacationing on Cape Cod during the off season (Nov.) who happened to be driving by an elderly couple who were just beginning to put stuff out for a yard sale. They had numerous cans and containers of varying size, one of which was an umbrella stand type gizmo. Sticking out of the top of it were serveral bamboo fly rod sections (Leonard), a couple of black wood (ebony) shotgun cleaning rods, a few golf clubs, and two sets of Parker .410 ga. barrels! The guy very wisely made an offer on the contents and the can and took the whole lot for next to nothing. So far as I know he never found the whereabouts of the gun and still has the barrels. KBM
