Geo, the Canadian Marshall McLuhan wasn't kidding when he introduced the term "global village" a half century ago, a world of technology as its nervous system, abolishing space and time.
There are no longer borders for agonies i.e jihadists or the Chinese chicken flu epidemic that entered North America 10 years or so ago. As for resources for bottling it up in poorly developing Africa, think of recent vaunted Secret Service and CIA.
But again US demonstrates its world leadership and responsibility by committing its military to fight an enemy arguably as lethal and threatening to the whole world as jihadists. It saw its duty and did it. Why I love it so much.

I always wondered, since we're all just one big village, who'll be the world's policemen. I remember President Bush wasn't qualified or capable, what again is the threat and who's leading the unwilling against this syrian work place violence.

For now, the US is the world's policeman. We can be thankful for it. Iraq is unwinnable within our lifetime. The best we can hope for is to keep the edge off the nutters as we do the Mafia and other miscreants.

I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.

Iraq is unwinnable within our lifetime. It's easily winnable we just don't have leadership up to the task.

I pray that does not befall them...Geo Ok, what you pray for is that those people do good job in fighting the outbreak. That will accomplish at least two things show world we can take initiative in dire emergency can cope with this pathogen in effective manner and are not afraid of it. We would not want our enemies to send bunch of suicide carriers over to our shores would we?

PS. If any of those people should fall then people in our country and those over there will be grateful for their sacrifice for very, very long time.

Naturally we are all hopeful that they succeed in their mission and all come back healthy. We and those will also be very grateful for very, very long time.
