Was Miroku making and selling their S/B/S shotgun before they made the Browning BSS? Were the Charles Daly and other brand name guns made by Miroku marketed before the introduction of the BSS? I had always thought the design, although a simple A&D boxlock was a product of Browning engineering. Guns marked Charles Daly do not have a drawbolt securing the stocks as do the Browning BSS. Please clear this up for me, guys. Thanks, Chopperlump

Chopper, Get a hold of the Sept/Oct 2002 Shooting Sportsman and Larry Browns "Miroku Side-by-side" story will answer all that ails you. According to Larry " The first... was Charles Daily". In 1968 Browning imported the BT-99 by Miroku and it was followed by the BSS in 1972. It is a worth while reference. Best, Ron

Not sure when Miroku started making sxs, but a Miroku boxlock and sidelock appear in "Buxton's Guide to Foreign Firearms", which dates back to 1963--nearly a decade before the BSS appeared.
Salopian, email me at miclarry@netins.net and I'll email you the article in question. I'm pretty sure I can find it in my files.

Shooting Sportsman has that particular backissue and I've just ordered it. Many thanks Ron. I've been a fan of the BSS ever since I bought my first one around 25 yrs ago.

BC My Lucks were the first Mirokus. They changed company names and modernized styles. My Lucks were pretty much for Japanese hunting fare only, but very well made. You'll find them as GI imports typically.
