I just picked up a mid-50's 37 Ithaca, 20ga. as a first shotgun for my youngest daughter. It was obvious that someone had stuck a 12ga. stock on it at some point, and poorly. I thought I could repair what was left, but now have serious doubts. I'm looking for a replacement, preferably semi-inletted, but at this point just about anything will do. I've checked the usual places on the net, but not much luck because of the 20ga.aspect. Does anyone have an idea on this/ Local shop with one hanging around? Any ideas would be appreciated. We're teaming up on this one. I'll do the critical stuff, but she's applying elbow grease, rust bluing, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I had looked all over. One of the sites listed were out of stock, but offered a pretty tight ETA of 1-6 mos. Most of the rest I was batting zero. I had forgotten and for some reason was not coming across Macon. I got a stock set for a 97 from them some time ago. The wood was nice, but not cured. I got a fair amount of shrinkage after fitting, mostly at the butt plate. I think that getting a pre-made set, rather than one of the standards that they make to order out of what's around, may get wood with more cure, and Annie will love using the "fancier" wood on her gun. We've already planned on using one of the reproduction Sunburst pads from Galazan's and adding a stock oval. She'll have something worth keeping.
Thanks Again,
Jim

Have you looked on ebay? The days of fantastic bargains are over, but they have a lot of gun parts on there now. There are at least two 20 gauge stocks listed.

Actually I had looked on e-bay. At the time, there were none. I'll have to see what's there now. The thing about e-bay is that a lot of sellers either don't know exactly what they have, or have taken it there to find someone who doesn't. I'll have to see what's available now, although I think I've started to get hooked on a serious upgrade.

Just checked e-bay. Only one for a 20ga. The one listed as "burlwood" is for a 12. I'll keep an eye on the plain one in 20ga. For the right price, I'll get it. If not, Annie and I have an excuse to give Mom for spending too much on a nicer one. Either way, we win.

The Ithaca Lovers subforum on shotgunworld.com is full of Model 37 fans. It won't take long to find someone who will sell you a stock.

What this guy said. The new shop in Upper Sandusky, OH is perfectly willing to put a stock on for you. I bought one for a King's Ferry 12 a few years back that was reasonably priced.

Best,
Ted
