I agree with you, Eightbore. Model 21's are super nice guns. They aren't quite as svelt and racy as an English sidelock, but they are well made and darn nice guns. If anyone out there wants to trade a 21 for a 311, even a junker 21, please sign me up.

I realize that a 21 is not a hand made gun, but those who rate it along the lines of a 311 don't know which end the shot comes out. Klunk was tongue in cheek when he talked of 21s and most of our posters were and are completely unaware. 99.9% of Model 21 critics have never held or shot one. 98.6% of Model 21 critics have never seen one in person. Klunk was having fun with those people and they took him seriously. Oh, well. Uh huh. So, how many did he own? I already know the answer. He may have had some fun, but, he put his money where his mouth was. Best, Ted

I woudl believe your ides of beauty is somewhat formed by your initial experiences in life. If your on the 'other side of the pond', no doubt a sidelock is your idea of beauty. For me, growing up in a small Wisconsin Town, the Sporting Goods store had a Browning Superposed 12 gauge hanging on the wall for years. No one had the money to purchase but it was beautiful. My idea of reading material besides Boys Life was the yearly Winchester catalog. The Model 21's were simply beautiful and the 21-6 w/inlay engraving, something to behold. In later years, the only shotgun that simply grabbed my attention was the Darne. Form followed function with the Darne and the fastest handling double was also beautiful to me. I don't let anyone tell me what I like or don't like, but I also don't disparage what others like. I will admit that there a few clunky guns out there but the Model 21 is not one of them.-Dick

Dick, hello, I just find that the prices 21's go for is amazing to me. 6 or 8 grand would buy, for my taste, a much more lovely looking BL, a real screamer. You are right about the brit part..I just find them rather homely looking for the price, thats all I meant. Of course, each to his own..I didn't mean any real harm or insult by my crass remark..sorry if I offended anyone Happy Easter to everyone.. franc

I love light game guns. A 6-1/2 pound British twelve is about perfect for any North American game bird. And I really, really like sub-six pound sub-bores.
But if I am going to shoot two hundred rounds of ATA trap with 1-1/8oz 1150 fps shells in a SxS I want a nice heavy gun like a 21.
I think 21s and Harleys are classic American products. Both very big, very shiny, and very overbuilt when compared to their contemporary overseas competitors. But both also perfectly suited to their intended purpose.
And as Franc and others have said it is a matter of taste.
