Hi guy's ,my 16 bore straight rifled Husqvarna rolling block is almost complete,I have most everything I need to load up the ammo for it (round balls ),I'm just lacking a little info ...which smokeless powder would be a good choice ? I have some 4765 ,4198 and 3031 on hand right now .
Do anyone have any established loads for something like this ?
Best , Chris

Newf, It looks like you are going to do the ground breaking work on this project. All kidding aside, most of us on the internet are too young(even at 69)to have any experience with loads like you need. You might find what you need in really old shotgun loading manuals(now hard to find)or old bullet mold manual(if they offered round ball molds). You should be able to safely use the same powder load with round ball, that you would with shotload of the same weight.Failing this, the powder manufacturer may provide information. Mike

Thanks Mike ,it's really starting to look that way ...I've searched everywhere I can think of,when I get some loads worked up for my old 16 gauge shotguns I guess I'll substitute the rb for shot ...I'll post of my results
Thanks , Chris

Chris, what about 16ga rifled slug load? Surely they're around if they apply.

Hodgdon's Data Manual No. 23 (1979) has a 2 3/4 16 ga slug load using Winchester hull and "20 Trap-100" powder and charge in grains (whatever that is) Wad "3/4 oz Meyer Bros AW + 1/2" velocity 1400fps Lup 10,200.
No mention primer.
Note in Sierra Reloading Manual (1971) there are AL-120 and AL-101 Alcan powders within top 10 fastest burning rate chart. Suppose Trap 100 also Alcan? The following is far better.
Dupont Handloaders Guide has a 2 3/4 16ga buckshot load (12 pellets) Federal 209 primer, 27.5 grains 4756 Wad "PGS + 5 /16 in FBS" 1285 fps and pressure 7300
I have some 16ga Circle Fly wads and cards and RMC brass, to which you are welcome. Is your Husky 2 1/2 or 2 3/4?

Newf, mic your bore or slug it somehow and check for how much choke, if any. You should be able to extrapolate a load from the weight of the round ball, ( which should be right at 1 ounce ), as compared to the weight of a load of shot. I have a 16 bore RB mold that I'll check the diameter of for you if interested. I THINK...Seyfried did some work on the kind of loads you're looking for and wrote them up in DGJ. I know there's been some BP loads worked up. In a single shot I would be more than happy with a good BP load.
