This is a very nice looking stock that just does not seem to have been on this gun when made. I suspect someone came across a grade 4 or higher stock at a gunshow and decided to dress up his favorite hunting gun. Wish I had been at that show. Hard to pin down the grade with these pictures but the quality of the stock is easy to spot even with poor pictures. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=69513354

The stock looks original Ithaca Grade 5, but the forearm doesn't look original anything. For several years there was a Field Grade NID 28-gauge making the rounds in the mid-Atlantic area with Grade 7E wood on it.

If that was a 28 I would have already bought it from the seller and it would be on its way to Mr. Hunt to get engraving to match the wood. Still, nice wood for a bottom feeder like me.
