It looks like a GPR to me. I just checked Terry's rifle again and the extractor plate is on top. We get forgetful when we get old.
With the Stevens-Pope, the Krag extractor pulled directly on the cartridge case. With the GPR, the Krag extractor pulls on a secondary extractor. The whole extractor is much like a Winchester Single Shot set up for .22 rimfire.
Somewhere early on I would slug the barrel. The early ones were intended to shoot .22 Extra Long and have a 0.226" groove diameter and an 18" twist. The later ones were set up for .22 Long Rifle.

To clarify, the picture I posted is not the gun I bought. I posted the picture in reference to xausa's comment about the asymmetrical bore he referred to. I'll post up pictures of mine when I recieve.

I rolled the dice and didn't win this time. Although marked as .22, the Krag has been converted back to 30-40  Oh well it does have a decent bore.

Just send it over to Harry Pope in Jersey City, and have him fit one of his .22 barrels to it. Easy peasy.

I think this one was worked on by HM Poop..... I'm still trying to figure out how the extractor works on the off center barrels  !

According to Ray M. Smith's "The Story of Pope's Barrels", Pope bored the Krag .22 short barrels eccentric at the breech, approximately 7/64" off center. This would be about .110"
The rim diameter of the .30-40 Krag case is .545" and that of the .22 short is .278". The respective base diameters are .457" and .226". The distance from the edge of the rim to the base of the Krag case would be .044" and the same dimension with the .22 short cartridge would be .026", which would be the amount of room the Krag extractor had to engage.
The difference in base diameters is .231", divided by 2 would be .116", only slightly more than the amount of the off-set, so that, assuming the off-set was vertical and that the Krag extractor gripped the Krag rim all the way to the case body, the Krag extractor should engage with the .22 short rim with no difficulty.

I'm beginning to wonder about the hole drilled in the side of the reciever and if this designates something to do with a lack of proof?
