I had the chance to check out and shoot a real nice Purdey .303 DR over the holiday. Gorgeous gun, fantastic shape, all original, case with just about all the original goodies.

Check it out:

Happy New Year.

My, what a lovely rifle.

What an adventure it would be to take the action to pieces and investigate how Purdey built the 3rd fastner to function with a rotary under lever in lieu of a top lever.

What was your observation of how it works?

What a treasure that rifle is.

BV- the 3rd fastener is interesting. I spent a while looking at it. There's a bolt in the top of the action that engages and locks it.

This bolt moves back and forth, in line with the bbls (instead of perpendicular with them like a Greener cross bolt). It's always contained within the action. The bolt is notched to engage the extension, and it's very stout.

It is activated by the the lever. I'm not sure how they link up, though.

The underlever is a snap-action, so it snaps into place when you close the gun and pops open when you disengage it to open the gun.

Good God, what a beauty! Love the hammerless/underlever combo. It is amazing to think about how few hammerless Purdey double rifles there are, but more amazing to think how much less of those were made LOG instead of TL.

Congrats on being able to handle and shoot it! I am definitely envious.
