Looking for any info on this German target rifle. A quick measurement of the bore is .365 may be some sort of 9.3 . Will need to do chamber cast and slug bore.

Nice rifle! There are examples of these rifles in Rowe's, "Old German target Arms Alte Scheibenwaffen Vol.1-3"

Your rifle looks like it was built using a Mauser 1871 action. Is there a maker's name on the barrel rib?

This reminds me that Mauser made some single shot target rifles on a shortened 98 action in the late 30's as an experiment. Have any of these surfaced? Speed has some pictures of one in his book on the 98 Sporters.

Try posting this on the ASSRA website. There is a poster from Germany by the name of Biggi that has lots of good information on German rifles and of the style of Scheutzen that was and is still done over there. All standing up. She is very knowledgable about these styles of rifles.

I LIKE bolt action single shots and that one looks primo. Let us know what you find out about the cartridge it chambers, how it shoots, etc. Great photos, by the way!

Second the idea of checking on the ASSRA website with the hopes that Biggi will know about the rifle. I have seen several (maybe a dozen) bolt action near-Schuetzens with actions that resemble the 1871 Mauser in style, if not size. Never saw one that nice.

There are dozens of 9.3 or 9.5 rimmed Schutzen-type cartridges. To identify caliber completely, it may be necessary to look closely at the bolt face (flat, recessed or concave?) and to come up with theoretical measurements for rim diameter & rim thickness.

To ID the chambering,a chambercast will be necessary. There is a better than even chance that it is 9.5x47R,based on the .510-.516"headsize "A"base(orMB)case. These can be made from 11mm Mauser,45-70,or 40-60 cases.
